The Wingz Credentialing Process

Safety can mean a lot of things, but this is what Safety means to Wingz

Our extensive credentialing process for NEMT drivers ensures drivers are properly vetted and capable of providing a high level of care.

*Required in certain states.

1. Age 25 years or older

2. Valid Driver’s License

3. Valid Auto Insurance

4. Valid Vehicle Registration

5. Own or Lease a 4-7 passenger vehicle that is 2010 or newer

6. At least 3 years of Driving History

7. Clean Motor Vehicle Record

Ensures a clean driving history with no major violations, e.g., DUIs, reckless driving, excessive speeding.

8. Vehicle Inspection

A 19-point or a client-mandated annual vehicle inspection, where applicable.

9. Criminal Background Check

A comprehensive review of state, federal, and local records to screen for any disqualifying offenses.

10. Live Screening

We discuss the driver’s experience, reliability expectations and willingness to go the extra mile for passengers.

11. Drug Screening

Must pass a 10-panel (or DOT for certain clients) drug test and random screenings may be conducted.

12. Telematics

Drivers agree to the use of telematics to monitor driver behavior and ensure safe driving.

13. Passenger Assistance & Sensitivity Training

Focuses on assisting passengers with mobility challenges, understanding passenger needs and proper wheelchair securement (if required).

14. HIPAA Compliance Training

Ensures drivers understand the importance of protecting patient privacy and handling sensitive health information appropriately.

15. National Sex Offender Registry Check

Confirms that applicants are not listed on any sex offender registries.

16. Exclusion List Screening

Checking applicants against government exclusion lists (e.g., OIG or SAM databases) to ensure compliance with Medicaid and healthcare-related transportation standards.

17. Alcohol Screening*

Must pass an alcohol screening depending on the market requirements.

18. CPR & First Aid Certification*

Many states and brokers require drivers to complete CPR and First Aid training to handle emergency situations.

19. Defensive Driving Training*

Covers safe driving practices, risk awareness, and accident prevention techniques tailored for passenger transport.

20. Fraud, Waste, & Abuse Training*

Educate drivers on ethical standards and prevent fraudulent activity in the NEMT industry.

21. Equipment*

For certain markets, drivers must have safety equipment such as a fire extinguisher, first aid and biohazard kits, reflective triangles, and other safety items.

22. Hands-On Vehicle & Equipment Training*

Drivers transporting wheelchair passengers require hands-on training on securing mobility devices safely.
